Jean Meadows photo album

Album labelled 'Career' containing photographs featuring or relating to St George's nurse Jean Meadows (née Veronica Jean Cruise), including scenes of nurses, wards, Christmas festivities, royal visits, etc. Also includes press cuttings about visits by two different Duchesses of Kent (Princess Marina and Katharine) and an inserted certificate of completion of the St George's tuberculosis nursing course (1957).

Each individual record includes the following information: name, address, non-resident address, next of kin, age, date of birth, religion, country of origin (for records from 1960s onwards), marital status/maiden name, education, previous occupation, dates of training and leaving, number of lectures attended, study days, examinations, health record, sickness and special leave/holidays, and 'particulars of training' (dates and types of ward experience, with brief reports).

The records generally have a passport-style photograph affixed to the top right-hand corner.

Note that it is possible that there are more unlabelled South London Hospital photographs mixed in with the St James' ones (see NU/6/2/5/1).

Kalmar County Nursing College album

Blue ring binder containing colour photographs (mounted on card, with captions) of student nurses and facilities at Kalmar läns vårdhögskola [Kalmar County Nursing College], Sweden, apparently presented to St George's School of Nursing during a visit by a group from Kalmar in Nov 1988 (with a final page signed by all the visiting nurses). Also includes correspondence relating to the visit.

He reached the 6th standard at school and worked in a munition factory during the war but since then had no regular emplyment. An X Ray of the skull had shewed no change in the sella turcica. On admission: 23/2/'22 There was extraordinary and universal obesity, florid complexion, pedulous [sic] cheeks, female type breasts and pendulous abdomen with well marked '[?]'. He had a high pitched voice and his mentality was child like. Heart and lungs. N.A.D. [Nothing abnormal discovered]. B.P. systolic 218 mm. Abdomen. Nothing abnormal palpable. Lt [Left] testicle small and rt. [right] undescended. Urine contained 4% albumen. No gross change in fields of vision'

Black/brown album labelled 'Epsom Hospital / Kingston Hospital / Queen Mary's Hosp.' containing black and white photographs of nurses, doctors, child patients, hospital buildings and Christmas/recreational gatherings at Epsom District Hospital (1943-1952), Kingston County Hospital, Cassel Hospital (Summer School, 1950), and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children (1952-1954), as well as other personal and holiday photographs (of Oban/Arran, Cornwall, Somerset, Egypt, etc).

Most of the pages are annotated with captions (including mention of the children's specific diseases), although the identity of the album's creator remains unclear.

North Middlesex Hospital album

Blue hardback album (with gold 'Photographs' stamp on the cover) containing black and white/sepia photographs of nurses and wards/buildings at North Middlesex Hospital, Edmonton, as well as images of holiday locations (Torquay, Dartmoor, etc.), personal portraits, tennis matches, etc., some of which are captioned (though no names are included). A copy of a photograph of Victoria Hospital, Kingston has also been inserted into the album, though it has no obvious connection to the volume.
