Medical notes: 'History. On Oct [October] 26, a flap of skin was torn off the back of the L. [Left] hand by an iron bolt on a cart wheel, and the 4th metacarpal was also fractured. The patient was treated in the surgery: the wound being scrubbed with carbolic under ether and the flap loosely sewn into place. Suppuration and sloughing followed. He was treated in the O.P.D. [Out-patient Department] for 6 weeks, but no improvement occurred'
