Medical notes: 'This woman, who had been in the hospital repeatedly with dropsy and dyspnoea, was admitted on this occasion with moderate oedema (which had commenced in the feet six months before) and some distension of the belly. On admission the face was blue and the patient breathed with considerable difficulty, sitting far forward in her bed. She was by occupation a cook of sober habits’
