Medical notes: 'He has been a paper stainer all his life using much lead, arsenic, copper & mercury. He was an in-patient of St George's 24 years ago with colic; he has had none since; no wrist drop. For the last 20 years he has had frequent long attacks of cough and dyspnoea; for the last ten at least much polyuria. He has been a heavy drinker up to 1870 but slightly moderated his excesses since then'
