Medical notes: 'This patient was admitted with a compound fracture of the right tibia & fibula, fracture of right humerus, & a scalp wound 3 inches long, situated on the right side of the vertex of the skull, at the bottom of which the bone could be felt exposed. He was a workman at the New Bridge at Barnes [Barnes Railway Bridge] where some portion of the scaffolding having given way he was precipitated from a height of 40ft’
