In March 1933 she was told that she had Graves disease. Lately the voice had been affected and she has had diarrhoea.’

Medical notes: She had always been rather nervous. In October 1935 she noticed the nervousness increased and she became very fidgety. One month later exophthalmos began to develop and she had inability to use her eyes for close work. A fortnight before admission she noticed swelling in the neck, especially on the right side.
