Medical notes: 'This boy struck his right knee against a pitcher which he was carrying in his hand. He felt but little pain at the time but the next day the knee was painful & swollen & he was brought to the hospital. He had then much fever, his pulse very frequent but without power. His mother stated that three weeks before he was laid up with erysipelas and that he was still in bad health at the time of the accident’
