Medical notes: 'When 18 years of age the patient worked with lead. He was then a stone keeper. This occupation lasted only a year, but during that time he had colic. He had always been accustomed to drink beer, avoiding the weaker kinds and drinking chiefly ‘six ale’, and some spirits. The average quantity of beer was 5 or 6 pints daily’
