Medical notes: 'He is the first and only child of a healthy woman at 24 who has had no miscarriages. His father is phthisical. He was suckled for the first two months and is reported to have been then in good health. He was then put out to nurse and is said to have been fed on condensed milk. He had much diarrhoea and water gruel is said to have been ordered by a chemist to replace the milk. He was taken home again 3 weeks before admission in a state of great emaciation, and fed on scalded milk. Vomiting and diarrhoea were very constant and the child grew no stronger'
