Medical notes: 'This patient was admitted on the evening of the 6th December, stated to have been ill only two days, with severe cold which was chiefly marked by difficulty in swallowing & in breathing. When seen next day, altho’ she persisted in stating that she had the same difficulty in swallowing, nothing of any sort could be seen in the pharynx. Her face was expressive of anxiety, her breathing was very hurried, she was exceedingly restless, tossing about in every direction in order to breathe with greater facility’
