Medical notes: 'Her memory is extremely imperfect and on many points self-contradictory as to the earlier facts of her life. About the middle of the summer of 1879 she went to bed one night feeling perfectly well, and woke in the middle of the night to find that she had lost the power in her left arm & leg. She did not observe any inequality of the face, nor had any convulsions been noticed. Her speech was rendered extremely indistinct but it never seems to have been lost entirely'
