Medical notes: This woman was the mother of thirteen children, and had been exposed to cold and damp in the low parts of Rotherhithe. Three weeks before Christmas her breathing became very short, accompanied with violent cough. She had been subject for six years to palpitations, but had never suffered from any difficulty of breathing.
