Medical notes: 'Patient had been sent to AMCH [Atkinson Morley Convalescent Hospital] after having had a suppurating lipoma of the chest wall removed (S.R. [Surgical Register] 369 '06 [1906]). Whilst there he developed pain in the Rt [Right] iliac fossa, a high temperature and definite resistance over the appendix region. When readmitted he was very ill – a hard mass could be felt in the Rt [Right] iliac fossa, obviously a large abscess. He says he had never previously had any abdominal symptoms other than bilious attacks'
