Medical notes: 'This man was for many years a coal-heaver till three years before his death he took to lighter work on account of diseased bone in the right thigh, which after being operated upon resulted in a permanent discharging sinus. At the age of 30 he had an attack of variola and lost the sight of his left eye. No history of syphilis, direct or indirect, could be ontained during life. It is probable that he was not a hard drinker. For 8 or 9 years he had been aware of a pulsating swelling in the right groin, which gave him no inconvenience though it increased in size slowly'
