Medical notes: 'At the age of 13 the patient had rheumatic fever & chorea, and shortly after this began to suffer with morbus cordis. He was treated in the hospital for the first six months of 1902, for mitral stenosis & regurgitation, pleurisy with effusion on the left side, and pericarditis; there was considerable hypertrophy of the heart, & some dilation. Anaemia & dyspnoeic attacks were also features of the case’
